How to Use the EEC 4940 Internship Companion
Log after each internship day. Reflect by module. Back up often. Submit official work in Canvas.
- Use the same device and browser all semester.
- Enter your hours after every internship day.
- Export a JSON backup at least weekly and before each checkpoint.
- This app organizes your work; official assignments still go to Canvas.
Before you begin: your work lives only in this browser
- There is no account and no cloud storage in this app.
- Everything you type is stored only in this browser on this device.
- Opening the site in a different browser or on a different device looks empty.
- Private/incognito browsing, clearing browser data, history, or cache, uninstalling the browser, or device failure can erase your work.
- The only way to recover your entries is importing a JSON backup you exported earlier. PDFs are useful records, but they cannot repopulate the app.
- No one — not the college, your instructor, or the app — can retrieve lost entries for you. Your backups are the recovery plan.
Step by step
Start here
Six moves, in order. Repeat steps 3 through 6 all semester.
1. Open the Dashboard
The Dashboard shows your hours toward the 300-hour goal, upcoming checkpoints, and backup controls.
Go to Dashboard2. Fill in your placement details once
On the Time Log, enter your Student Name, Placement/Site, and Cooperating Teacher/Director. These details populate your printed hours logs and your journal pages, so spell them the way your site does.
Open Time Log3. Add a Time Log entry after every internship day
Do it the same day while the details are fresh. Complete every field on the entry card.
Add today's hours4. Complete the journal for the current module
Write your reflection in your own words while you still remember the specifics of the week.
Open Journal5. Export a backup and print/save your documentation
Download the JSON backup, then print or save the PDF you need for the checkpoint.
Open Print Packet6. Submit the required item in Canvas
Canvas is where the graded submission happens, by the posted due date. This app never submits for you.
Section D
Time Log directions
One entry per internship day. The log does the math; you supply accurate details.
- Click Add entry to create a new day.
- Enter the Date. The Week is assigned automatically from that date — you never pick it yourself. If the week looks wrong, fix the date.
- Enter the Classroom/Age Group and, if your site uses them, the cooperating teacher's initials.
- Enter Start Time, End Time, and Break Minutes.
- Hours calculate automatically. Correct the number by hand only when you truly must; the reset control returns it to the calculated value.
- Choose a Primary Activity Category: Observation; Instruction/Teaching; Planning/Preparation; Assessment/Documentation; Family Communication; Professional Collaboration; Program/Environment; Other.
- Write a brief description of what you did. Use initials or pseudonyms — never a child's full name.
- Entries save locally as you type. Save this entry confirms the day is complete, and it will not save while validation errors remain.
Entry controls
- Duplicate — copy a day with the same site details when your schedule repeats, then change the date.
- Print — open a single-day log with signature lines.
- Delete — remove the entry. You must confirm, and it is only recoverable from a backup.
Filters and “Log at a glance”
Filters narrow the list by week or date range so you can check a checkpoint window. The “Log at a glance” table above the cards shows every entry compactly with its date, week, activity, and hours — a fast way to spot a missing day or a wrong total.
Fix any flagged problem before a checkpoint: an end time earlier than the start time, negative hours, or an unreasonably long day. Unresolved errors block saving and make printed totals inaccurate.

Journal directions
Reflect module by module, in your own words, with confidentiality protected.
- Select the correct Module, enter the date range, and confirm your hours.
- Hours auto-sum from the Time Log entries that fall in that module. If you type a different total, Use log returns it to the Time Log total.
- Your responses autosave locally as you type.
- Protect confidentiality: initials or pseudonyms only, and no identifying information about children, families, or staff.
- Write the prompts in your own words. This tool scaffolds your reflection — it does not write it for you.
- Print / Save as PDF creates your personal record. You must still submit the assignment in Canvas.
Professional Starting-Point Interview
- Module 2 is different from every other journal module.
- Complete all six sections of the interview.
- Choose a 1–4 comfort rating for Florida standards, Core Competencies, CLASS, and NAEYC.
- Write 400–600 words total.
- Do not research or copy definitions first. Your honest current knowledge is the baseline you will compare against later.
- Include the professional decision-making scenario and your growth goals.
- Due Aug 30, 2026 by 11:59 p.m. as a text entry in Canvas.
Later journal modules
Every other module uses the six guided reflection areas. When they appear, you may also add optional connections — standards, education theory, CLASS dimensions, or your schedule — by first describing the evidence from your own week. Those optional connections are for your learning; the six reflection areas are the assignment.
Section F
Backing up and restoring your work
A weekly export is the single habit that protects an entire semester of hours.
- Export / Backup downloads a file named
eec4940-internship-backup-YYYY-MM-DD.json. - Move that file into OneDrive, Google Drive, or iCloud Drive, or email it to yourself. Do not leave your only copy in the Downloads folder.
- Import / Restore loads a JSON backup exported by this app. After you confirm, it replaces all app data currently in this browser.
- Start fresh (erase everything) permanently clears all saved time log entries and journals after two confirmations. Do not use it casually — export a backup first.
JSON backup
Restores editable app data. This is the only way to bring your entries back or move them to another device.
PDF or printed copy
A readable record for documentation and signatures. It cannot restore editable entries into the app.

Section G
Checkpoints and ink signatures
Three required hours submissions. Each one is printed, signed in ink, and uploaded to Canvas.
Hours logged through Module 5
Prepare print viewHours logged through Module 9
Prepare print viewComplete semester log, Modules 1–16
Prepare print view- On the Time Log, choose the correct Checkpoint Scope, then Open Print View.
- Print the page, or save it as a PDF for review first.
- The official signed record requires you and your cooperating teacher, mentor teacher, or director to sign the printed page in ink.
- Typed names are not signatures. This app does not verify electronic signatures.
- Upload the signed scan, photo, or PDF to the matching Canvas assignment.
Keep the signed paper copies yourself as well. They are your proof of hours if a file is ever lost.
Section H
Submitting in Canvas
This app does not submit anything to Canvas. Every graded item is turned in by you.
Before you hit Submit, check all seven:
- The correct module or checkpoint is selected.
- Every required section is complete.
- Your hours have been reviewed for accuracy.
- Confidentiality is protected — initials or pseudonyms only.
- Your PDF and JSON backup are saved somewhere safe.
- Required ink signatures are collected for hours logs.
- The correct file is uploaded, or the correct text is pasted, into the Canvas assignment before the due date. Module 2, for example, is a Canvas text entry rather than a PDF upload.
Section I
Troubleshooting
- My work is missing on another device or browser.
- Nothing syncs between browsers. Import your latest JSON backup on that device, or go back to the original browser and device where you entered the work.
- I cleared my browser data or used private browsing.
- Those entries are gone from the app. Recovery is only possible by importing a JSON backup you exported earlier. A printed PDF stays useful as documentation, but it cannot repopulate the app.
- My journal shows zero hours.
- No Time Log entries fall inside that module yet. Add entries with dates that map to the same module, then return to the Journal and the total will fill in.
- The week or module on an entry looks wrong.
- Correct the entry's date. The week is assigned automatically from the date, so changing the date changes the week.
- The calculated hours are wrong.
- Check the start time, end time, and break minutes first — most differences come from an a.m./p.m. mix-up or a missing break. Use the manual hours correction only when the real day cannot be described by those fields, and reset it back to the calculated value when you can.
- The print page does not appear.
- Use the Print button on the page, or your browser's print command: Ctrl+P on Windows and Chromebook, Command+P on Mac. Then choose your printer or “Save as PDF.”
- Can I type my signature?
- No. Typed names are not signatures. Print the hours log and collect ink signatures from your cooperating teacher, mentor teacher, or director for all official hours documentation.
One last reminder: same device, same browser, hours entered the same day, a backup every week, and Canvas for anything graded. Do those five things and your documentation will be ready every time a checkpoint arrives.
